Prerequisite
- Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) or Master Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (MLADC)

Step 1
Complete hours of work experience
- Complete 10,000 hours (5 years) of counseling experience as a LADC or MLADC including 200 hours of face-to-face clinical supervision through four hours per month
AND
4,000 hours (2 years) of clinical supervisory experience
- Complete 10,000 hours (5 years) of counseling experience as a LADC or MLADC including 200 hours of face-to-face clinical supervision through four hours per month

Step 2
Complete didactic training
- Complete 30 hours didactic training in clinical supervision in the areas of assessment, evaluation, counselor's development, management, administration and professional responsibility

Pass the clinical supervisor examination
- Pass the exam

Earn Master Alcohol and Drug Counselor License

For renewal: You will need a minimum of 6 clock hours of continuing education specific to Clinical Supervision within the previous 2 years. If you are a Licensed Clinical Supervisor (LCS) in addition to your MLADC license, please state which 6 of the 48 CEU hours you are documenting for your LCS renewal Find more details

Become a Licensed Clinical Supervisor

Licensed Clinical Supervisors can be found working in hospitals, community health centers, residential programs, outpatient centers, and more.
They supervise alcohol and drug counselors; including administrative, evaluative, clinical, and supportive oversight of the practice of alcohol and drug counselors.
This covers all activities, including but not limited to, alcohol and drug counselor development, skill assessment and performance evaluation, staff management and administration, and professional responsibility.
